Some help here please?

i have an 1988 ford tarus it overheats after like 10 minutes of running, ive come to the conclusion that its the themostat, and i think its stuck shut, someone told me all i have to do is punch a hole threw it with a screwdriver so the water will flow and it wont overheat anymore, i know that the heater wont work anymore but that really doesnt matter to me, so if this is true, wheres the thermostat at in the tarus and what tools do i need to do this?
