Does anyone else have problems ripping and burning DVD's with Gateway's Microsoft Vista?

Gateway said they have programs installed to block ripping and burning DVD's. Said it is due to infringement laws. The computer is about 4 months old and they tried to tell me to purchase their tech-support. Isn't it against the law to advertise that it rips and burns if it doesn't? I mean, it is not an infringement to want to share my videos of my children and grandchildren. Please give me some advice if you have any knowledge of this problem. Thanks in advance.
