How to control a mouse pointer?

I can't seem to control the mouse. It is moving all over the computer screen, especially towards to top. I have been using the mouse(wif the track ball) for many years, and there hv been no problems. Does it indicates that i need to replace 1? Or is there any ways whereby i can cont'd to use e old one?
